Sue Retford received a first class honours in painting from Cardiff Art School in 1989.  After teaching on a foundation art course at Worcester College, she trained as an art psychotherapist at the University of Hertfordshire - and later at Goldsmiths, London, which led her to studying further for a Masters with the Institute of Group Analysis. 

As a psychotherapist, Sue explores the influence of the unconscious mind, and that which is not explicit.

This is a subject that very much influences who she is as a painter today.
